Shaanxi Home-Style Tofu Pudding (Silken Tofu Version)

Silken tofu is bathed in a tangy, spicy sauce brightened with black vinegar and chili oil, a shortcut version of Shaanxi-style tofu pudding that's soulful and effortless at home.

    Steam silken tofu for 10 minutes.

    Put the star anise in water and cook for 20 minutes.

    Scoop out the residue, add light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, vinegar, salt, and MSG, bring to a boil and set aside.

    Prepare chopped cilantro, diced pickled vegetables, and cooked soybeans for the side dish.
