Drained rice

Drained rice

Traditional boiled-then-drained rice where germ rice is parboiled and the starchy rice water poured off, producing light, separate grains with a soft, chewy bite.

Instructions

The germ rice I bought online has a texture similar to oatmeal.

  2. 2

Rinse the rice clean and set aside

  3. 3

Add an appropriate amount of water to the pot and bring it to a boil. Once the water is boiling, add the rice and cook together, occasionally stirring the rice at the bottom to prevent it from sticking. The amount of water can be adjusted according to each person's preference for the thickness of the rice soup.

Wait until the rice is almost blooming, then scoop it out and drain the rice water. The cooking time of the rice can be decided according to each person's preference for the softness or hardness of the rice; if you like it a bit harder, cook it a little less. The germ rice I bought was cooked a bit longer.

After scooping out the rice, the rice water left in the pot.

  6. 6

Scoop the rice into a bowl and put it in the steamer to steam.

The rice steamed this way comes out with each grain distinct. Look at the finished rice in the picture.
