Effective remedy for cough and phlegm, steamed orange with salt
Whole oranges pricked, lightly salted at the flesh, and steamed until juicy and warm, a gentle folk remedy believed to ease cough and soothe the throat.
Instructions
- 1

Clean the surface of the orange with salt.
- 2

Make a cut at the top of the orange, preferably keeping the top connected to the orange, without cutting all the way through. This way, the top of the orange doesn't need to be secured with a toothpick.
- 3

Poke the orange flesh a few times with chopsticks.
- 4

Sprinkle a small amount of salt; don't use too much salt to prevent the taste from worsening.
- 5

Then poke a few times with chopsticks to let the salt penetrate into the orange flesh.
- 6

Put it in the steamer, steam for ten minutes after the water boils. Steaming for too long will destroy the vitamin C in the oranges.
- 7

Steam it, let it cool, and eat it. Also, drink the orange juice in the bowl.
- 8

Eat the pulp together with the orange juice, and remember that salt-steamed oranges are suitable for treating heat cough caused by exterior wind-heat. Make sure to use dietary therapy that matches your symptoms!
