Exclusive Five-Spice Chess-Style Tofu
A five-spice dough flecked with toasted fennel seeds is shaped into small, chess-piece-like morsels that bake up hard, savory, and delightfully crunchy.
Instructions
- 1

Take the fennel seeds and put them in a pot, stir-frying over low heat until fragrant.
- 2

Crush the stir-fried small meat aromas with a rolling pin and set aside.
- 3

Put flour, five-spice powder, fennel seeds, salt, and baking soda into a bowl and mix well.
- 4

Add oil, crack in the eggs, and, according to the condition of the dough, add water as appropriate.
- 5

Knead into a slightly dry dough, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- 6

Knead the risen dough until smooth.
- 7

Roll it into a 5-millimeter-thick sheet, then cut it into strips 10 millimeters wide.
- 8

Then cut it into small pieces diagonally.
- 9

Place it into the baking pan.
- 10

Preheat the oven for 10 minutes. After preheating, set it to 160 degrees with both the top and bottom heating elements on.
- 11

Place the baking tray in the middle-lower layer.
- 12

Bake for 25 minutes and then take it out.
