Five-Spice Pumpkin Seeds
A zero-waste snack: fresh pumpkin seeds rinsed, tossed with five-spice and barbecue seasoning, marinated, then oven-roasted until crackly and aromatic for a savory, crunchy treat.
Instructions
- 1
When making pumpkin pancakes, I found the pumpkin seeds were very plump, so I suddenly had the idea to try making five-spice pumpkin seeds. First, wash the pumpkin seeds clean.
- 2
Drain the water, add five-spice powder, and I also added some barbecue seasoning. What exactly to add can depend on personal taste.
- 3
Mix well and let it sit for half an hour to absorb the flavors.
- 4
Spread on a baking tray, set the oven to 140°C with both top and bottom heat. After about ten minutes, you’ll start hearing popping sounds like popcorn inside. Bake a little longer and then turn it off to prevent burning.
- 5
Plate the dish.
- 6
The meat is quite plump.
