Papaya and Lotus Seed Carp Soup
Pan-fried crucian carp simmered with underripe papaya and presoaked lotus seeds, a milky Cantonese soup traditionally believed to boost lactation.
Instructions
- 1

Soak 20 grams each of lotus seeds and black-eyed peas in clean water in advance
- 2

Make sure to scrape out the black membrane inside the crucian carp's belly, then use a kitchen paper towel to absorb the moisture.
- 3

Choose a papaya that is not very ripe, peel it and remove the seeds, then cut it into chunks.
- 4

Add oil to the pan and heat it, then put in the crucian carp and fry until both sides are slightly yellow.
- 5

In order to avoid having fish bones in the prepared soup, the pan-fried fish is placed into a soup bag. Put it in the soup pot and add an appropriate amount of water.
- 6

Pour the soaked lotus seeds and black-eyed peas into the pot
- 7

Then add papaya and slices of ginger
- 8

Cover the pot, bring the water to a boil over high heat, then simmer over medium-low heat for an hour and a half, and finally add salt to taste.
