Pickled Mustard Square Large Steamed Bun
A squared steamed roll layered with pickled mustard greens and thirteen-spice, folded and pinched into soft, savory, pull-apart folds.
Instructions
- 1

Dissolve the yeast in warm water, mix with the flour, knead into a smooth dough, and let it ferment until it doubles in size.
- 2

Take out the fermented dough, release the air, roll it into a large long sheet, brush a layer of vegetable oil, sprinkle with pickled mustard and thirteen-spice powder, spread evenly, and roll it up.
- 3

Cut into small pieces.
- 4

Stack the two pieces together and press them all the way down in the middle with chopsticks.
- 5

Fold both the left and right sides downwards and bring them together.
- 6

Place in a square baking pan and let it ferment until it doubles in size.
- 7

Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then steam over medium heat for 35 minutes (if the steamed buns are large, steam for a longer time). Turn off the heat, let it sit for 3-5 minutes, and then uncover the pot.
- 8

Three-dimensional and aesthetically pleasing, with distinct layers.
- 9

Fluffy and soft, nutritious and delicious.
