Pumpkin Glutinous Rice
Half-cooked glutinous rice is layered with brown sugar inside a hollowed whole pumpkin, then steamed until the gourd turns tender and the grains absorb its sweetness and aroma.
Instructions
- 1

Prepare a pumpkin and wash it clean.
- 2

Cut from the top and hollow out the inside.
- 3

Soak the glutinous rice for three hours, then cook it in a pot until half done and take it out.
- 4

Spread a layer of glutinous rice, then a layer of brown sugar. The amount of glutinous rice depends on the size of the pumpkin, and the amount of brown sugar depends on how sweet you like it—add more if you like it sweet, less if you don’t.
- 5

Until it is fully covered.
- 6

Add the rice cooking liquid, or water.
- 7

Steam on the pot for thirty to forty minutes, and adjust the time according to the size of the pumpkin.
- 8

You can also spread a layer of jujubes on top and steam it. I don’t have any at home, but I wonder if it would turn out quite nice after steaming.
- 9

Cut it open, soft, glutinous, and sweet.
