Simple and Easy-to-Make Sweet Potato Balls
Soft sweet potato dough kneaded with glutinous rice flour and wrapped around red bean paste simmered with rock sugar, yielding chewy, earthy-sweet little balls.
Instructions
- 1

First, cook the red bean paste. Put the red beans and rock sugar in a pot. I used a pressure cooker and cooked it twice, and it was done. Taste the sweetness when it's done; if it's not sweet enough, you can add some white sugar and stir it.
- 2

Put it into the blender and blend into red bean paste.
- 3

Steam the sweet potatoes until cooked.
- 4

Put in the white sugar and mash the sweet potatoes into a paste.
- 5

Add the glutinous rice flour and stir until combined.
- 6

You can also knead it into a ball. Since I don't want to get my hands dirty, I directly use a potato masher to mix and divide it into dough balls of about the same size.
- 7

Roll into a ball, then roll it in sesame seeds.
- 8

Take the divided dough, press it flat with your hands, wrap in red bean paste, seal it, and press it flat again.
- 9

Coat both sides of the wrapped sweet potato cakes with sesame seeds.
- 10

It's all wrapped up.
- 11

Brush oil on the electric griddle, heat it up, and place the sweet potato cakes on it to fry until both sides are golden brown.
- 12

Add oil to the pot and heat it until it reaches 60% hot, then put in the sweet potato balls. Fry them slowly over low heat until they float. Use a slotted spoon to press the sweet potato balls twice, and they will be almost cooked.
- 13

The sweet potato balls that just came out of the pot are soft and glutinous.
- 14

The red bean paste cake doesn't look good, but it tastes great.

The red bean paste I made myself is made with real ingredients.
