Super Easy and Delicious Salted Egg Yolk Char Siu
Pork strips marinated overnight in a rich blend of seasonings, then roasted until glossy and caramelized. A surprise salted egg yolk hidden inside adds a savory, buttery twist to this barbecue classic.
Instructions
- 1

Prepare a piece of pork shoulder with a certain thickness, about 3-5 cm thick. Cut the meat into strips, and mix all the seasonings from the list except for honey evenly into the meat. Put it in a storage container and refrigerate to marinate overnight. If in a hurry, 2 hours or more will also work; the longer the time, the more flavorful it will be.
- 2

Take out the marinated meat, and use a small knife to insert into the middle of the meat and cut a slit from the center to both sides;
- 3

The cut should be just large enough to fit the salted egg yolk inside, and the depth should be determined based on the length of your knife, at least enough to accommodate the length of 2 to 3 yolks;
- 4

Stuff salted egg yolks into the meat.
- 5

Seal the opening with a toothpick;
- 6

Put the meat with the stuffed egg yolks into a non-stick pan, add three or four bowls of water, cover with a lid, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over medium heat. You can also use a rice cooker; just add a bowl of water and press the cook button.
- 7

During the cooking process, flip the meat, and when the broth becomes thick, add a spoonful of honey;
- 8

Turn up the heat to reduce the sauce, and during the reduction, keep turning the meat over. Once it reaches this level, it's done.
- 9

Sliced and arranged on the plate, isn't the golden yellow color super tempting!
- 10

Enticing finished product picture!
- 11

Take a bite, it's so so so delicious, I just can't stop!
